Live Webinar: Mental Health Issues on the Rise among College Students
“Mental Health Issues on the Rise among College Students”
Presented by Dana Lasek, PhD, HSPP
Research indicates that the mental health of college students has changed significantly in recent years. College students today are more likely to be diagnosed with more than one mental health disorder, more likely to report moderate to severe symptoms of mental illness, and more likely to report taking psychotropic medication than in past years.
Dr. Lasek will review the literature and examine the impact of this issue on college counseling centers and the campus community as a whole. Causes for this increase will be explored as well as the benefits of providing mental health services for these students in need. Dr. Lasek will also share information provided by Indiana colleges and university counseling centers regarding the rise in mental health issues among students on their campuses.
By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
Identify the trends among college students including: the increase in mental health diagnoses, increase in severity of symptoms, and increase in students seeking services for mental health issues
Identify the factors which are contributing to the rise in mental illness among college students
Summarize ways to help students with a mental health diagnosis navigate college while managing medication and therapy.
This intermediate presentation has a target audience of clinicians, residents, students, interns, and researchers.
1 Category I CE will be awarded for full attendance and completion of a CE evaluation.
Registration is limited to 100 participants and closes on May 16th.
