Session Summary

The Pennsylvania SHRM Panel Discussion and Forum will foster a much-needed dialogue across the state, addressing key challenges and opportunities in Workforce Readiness. This virtual session promises to be an impactful forum, bringing together HR professionals, employers, educators, policymakers, and leaders across Pennsylvania. By focusing on workforce readiness and inclusive practices, we aim to foster meaningful collaboration and actionable insights.

Guided by a seasoned moderator, the panel will feature five industry experts, including a specialist in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIAB). Together, they will provide valuable insights.

The discussion will focus on three critical areas:

1. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIAB)
Emphasizing talent pools that can be better utilized through DEIAB efforts.

2. Veterans and Military Families
Highlighting greater collaboration around veterans, military spouses, and their families.

3. Seasoned and Experienced Workers
Encouraging the employment of older, more seasoned professionals.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify Effective Workforce Development Strategies: 
    Attendees will learn about actionable strategies for addressing skill gaps and building a future-ready workforce through education, training, and development programs.

  • Best Practices in DEIAB
    Participants will gain practical insights into creating and fostering inclusive, equitable, and accessible environments that promote a sense of belonging for all employees, enhancing organizational culture and success.

  • Support Career Transition and Management
    Attendees will explore techniques for managing employee career transitions and mobility, ensuring they are prepared for changes in the workplace, both within and across industries, while promoting growth and retention.

  • Collaborate Across Sectors to Address Workforce Challenges
    Participants will learn how to collaborate effectively with employers, educators, and policymakers to create solutions that support workforce readiness and address key challenges within Pennsylvania's labor market.

She has overseen multiple adult vocational and training facilities, focusing on rural and underserved populations. Her expertise includes fiscal management, regulatory compliance, and securing funding for new program initiatives.

Dr. Marcus Wardlaw, SHRM-CP, PHR
Regional Director at the United States Department of Labor, Veterans Affairs. Dr. Wardlaw brings extensive expertise in workforce development and veteran advocacy, offering valuable insights into how organizations can better prepare to embrace and support veterans and military families.

Dr. Victoria Mattingly

Arthur Breese
Director, Diversity and Inclusion at Geisinger Health System. Theresa Velykis, PHR, SHRM-CP
Ms. Velykis serves as the Director of Human Resources at Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia. She promotes an employee-focused, high-performance culture and oversees employee relations, performance management, benefits, compensation, certification, and compliance
