RMMI Lunch and Learn: Local Material Properties
What's the Strength of That ... and the Other Thing?
One of the beautiful (and challenging) aspects of masonry construction is its composite nature. We often have block, mortar, grout, and reinforcing blended together in an assembly that is frequently characterized by a single property,
f′m . What are the actual strengths of each of these components in the Front Range of Colorado? Which of these components should we test, and what should we expect from the test results? What about other types of masonry, such as historic clay brick, stone masonry, modern brick, self-consolidating grout, and other less-common masonry materials? This presentation will provide information on properties of various masonry components that you and your design teams are using in your structures right now.
