This person will be instrumental in creating and developing the distribution and collection division as Lochbuie continues to grow and expand. Your strengths and experience in water distribution and wastewater collection systems is a valuable skillset that the Town is seeking to hire.

This position reports directly to the Public Works Director and will have oversight of Maintenance Workers and potentially other staff as assigned. This person will also work very closely with contractors.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision and using judgement, discernment, and initiative, this person will lead a crew in the maintenance and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Employees in this classification perform technical and manual work. This position is responsible for repairing water leaks, repairing and installing sewer and water mains, and operates and maintains moderate to complex equipment. This person also prepares reports and updates work order requests with work activity. At times, this person will be required to assist other Public Works Department staff with assignments.

Essential Job Functions & Other Important Duties

Create and comply with written Town policies and procedures specific to this division and the Public Works department.
Maintains a safe working environment by knowledge and adherence to regulatory safety regulations and laws such as trench safety and confined space requirements, NEC electrical safety requirement, TMUTCD construction barricading and signage requirements, etc.
Inspects job sites and enforces safety regulations and procedures.
Will grow the division and supervise individuals on the water/wastewater crew out in the field to ensure all assigned work tasks and objectives are completed.

Performs work in the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater collections and distribution with a high level of responsibility and initiative.
Logs and updates work orders (paper and digital) with crew or individual work activity related to leak repair, main breaks, sewer stoppages, TV sewer inspection work and other activities as assigned.

Oversees and assists in the installation, maintenance, repair, or replacement of water/wastewater mains and appurtenances (meters, meter cans, services, fire hydrants, valves, manholes, cleanouts, etc.).

Resolves customer complaints due to water or sanitary sewer problems or concerns.
Train future employees in the proper operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of the water and wastewater systems and associated appurtenances and assets.

Researches, reads, and interprets construction and record drawings of infrastructure to and assist in the locating and marking of water and sewer facilities in the field.

Works in collaboration with the Public Works Director, keeping the Director informed as various work tasks and situations arise.

Responds to emergency situations after hours, weekends and holidays.

Operates, checks, and maintains moderate to complex equipment.

Locates and repairs water leaks on water mains. Makes water taps for various size water mains.

Locates and repairs sewer mains and manholes. Locates and unblocks stoppages in sewer mains.

Safely operates with skill jet flusher, TV sewer main inspection equipment, tracked and rubber tire backhoes, dump truck, and other construction equipment and tools as assigned.

Maintains, organizes and cleans tools, equipment, work areas and job sites.

Performs utility locates and manages Colorado 811 requests.

Other job functions:

Routinely assists other Public Works staff and operational groups (Streets, Parks, Building Maintenance, Traffic, Snow Removal) in the performance and completion of their duties. Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by minimum of two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving water/wastewater construction, maintenance and repair type work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Previous supervisory experience is desirable.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

Colorado Class II Water Distribution License is required, a Colorado Class II Sewer Collection Operations License is desirable.

Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.

Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to transport self from site to site. Ability to drive various types of equipment and vehicles to and from various worksites. Employee will work in extreme temperatures, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and lifting to repair the Town’s water and/or wastewater systems. Employee will work with chemicals, electrical, mechanical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches, and in streets where extreme hazards exist while performing duties. Employee is also required to frequently perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water, and mud. Must be able to work on slippery, loose, uneven, and sloped surfaces.

Comments:
The salary range for this position is $59,052 - $82,673. Placement within the range is dependent on qualifications and experience. Benefit information is provided on the Town's website with this job posting. This position is open until filled.
