The hiring range for this position is $24.42 - $30.53/hourly

This is classified as VHBE (Variable Hour Benefit Eligible), where the selected candidate will work an average of 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will be eligible to elect Medical Benefits as well as accrue paid time off and receive 10 paid holidays.

Position
The City of Aurora is seeking an experienced Water Utility Inspection Technician who will assist in the Inspection of construction-related professional services during the construction phase of water projects. Water Utility Inspection Technicians assist in ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, rules, regulations and City codes.
Work schedule is typically Monday to Friday between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. Additional required hours may include weekends, holidays, on-call, etc. on a rotating basis.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications & Working Conditions
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Associates Degree preferred
Experience:
At least one (1) year of experience performing construction inspections
Experience in a public jurisdiction or consulting engineering firm preferred
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of principles and techniques of construction as applicable to the construction of Utility projects
Construction materials and equipment
Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, contractors, developers, and citizens
Write detailed reports
Inspect and document construction activities
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
Licenses and/or Certificates:
Colorado driver's license with a good driving record
Physical Demands:
Medium work lifting no more than 50 pounds (with or without assistance) at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects
Some lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds
Regular walking and standing
A full range of body movements including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing
Foot/eye coordination to operate a motor vehicle to perform field work
Vision to read plans, specifications, and other written information
Frequent hearing and speech communication with employees, contractors, and citizens
Work Environment:
Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and over all types of terrain
Equipment Used:
Operates a motor vehicle; survey equipment; measuring equipment such as tapes, levels and micrometers, camera and personal computer.
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.
