DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The employee plays a crucial role in supporting senior civil engineers and the section chief with the in-house design of a diverse range of civil engineering projects. These projects encompass various tasks, including but not limited to the rehabilitation and removal of dams, the construction of marinas and docks, the development of boat ramps, the implementation of erosion control structures, streambank stabilization, roadway stabilization, retaining walls, concrete slabs, culverts, and bridges. The employee aids in hydrology and hydraulic calculations, conducts structural design calculations, and contributes to the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

In addition, the employee is responsible for creating plans and specifications using AutoCAD, drawing on data obtained from site investigations and topographic surveys for projects related to dam rehabilitation, dam removals, marina dock construction, and streambank stabilization, among others.

The employee also assists senior civil engineers and section chiefs in conducting dam inspections within Forest Districts and State Parks, helping to identify necessary structural and safety repairs during these evaluations.

Furthermore, the employee collaborates with external consultants engaged in dam rehabilitation and other civil engineering projects for the Department, assisting in the review of proposals and submissions throughout the design process. This includes verifying the engineering designs for accuracy, correctness, and constructability. Once the final plans and specifications are approved, the employee forwards them to the Contract Management Section for the bidding process.

To enhance job performance and remain updated on the latest policies, permit requirements, engineering design practices, and technological advancements, the employee actively participates in conferences, seminars, and training courses.
