Details:
Maintains areas related to Metro’s analytical quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) programs which are managed by the Regulatory Affairs Division within the Environmental Services Department. Works under the general direction of the QA Manager.
Examples of Duties:
1. Ensures verification of all data reported by external laboratories. This includes data reporting, data review, laboratory quality control, proper documentation of verified results and adherence to regulations and sound analytical practices.
2. Maintains and implements adjustments as necessary for the QA/QC program for all analytical testing in accordance with regulatory requirements and sound analytical practices. Develops, initiates, and monitors opportunities for improvement and when necessary, takes Corrective Action when non-compliant situations arise.
3. Assists in the compliance testing for NAPT, USGS, and QC Quarterly. Reviews and provides recommendations to Management for improving Metro’s QA/QC.
4. Conducts regular audits of procedures and the external laboratories as necessary to verify conformance with State and EPA regulations, standards, and policies.
5. Maintains Metro’s analytical Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs). Ensures that the QAPPs are reviewed and updated on a biennial basis.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:
-principles of inorganic/organic chemistry
-EPA and Standard Methods for water/wastewater testing
-data assurance aspects of laboratory QA/QC programs
-general office processes and procedures
-MS Office software
Skilled at:
-excellent analytical skills
-performing data review of analytical testing
-leveraging diverse modes of communication to optimize the effective exchange of ideas and information
-utilizing technology to seek and share resources and information
Ability to:
-independently solve complex problems

Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in statistics, mathematics, or other related field with coursework in biology and chemistry.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals 1/3 to 2/3 of the time. The employee is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, wet and humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions less than 1/3 of the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk or hear and taste or smell more than 2/3 of the time. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms 1/3 to 2/3 of the time; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl less than 1/3 of the time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds more than 2/3 of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
