Definition:
Perform engineering duties in support of field projects and operations within the Water and Waste Department in one or more of the following work areas: water and wastewater treatment, potable water distribution, sewer collection, and drainage. General work will include a wide variety of tasks related to field support to projects, project management, engineering studies and evaluations, compliance review, preparation of written reports, and support to operations.
Principal Duties:
• Serve as engineering technical support to project engineer or project manager on routine and minor projects related to the process optimization and engineering of the water and wastewater treatment facilities, drainage systems, sewer collection systems, potable water systems, and distribution systems.

• Directly support the operation of the City’s water and wastewater plants, collection and distribution system, and drainage system depending on workgroup location and assignments. Operations support emphasizes process improvements and optimization using engineering skills and knowledge.

• Participate in the development of designs, plans, specifications, construction scheduling, and estimates for the construction of public works and utilities projects. Perform engineering fieldwork.

• Participates in the evaluation, modeling, and optimization of operations processes and facilities.

• Perform routine operation duties to develop a familiarity with standard procedures with an emphasis on reviewing procedures and discovering methods to improve operations and document revised procedures or critical observations.

• Supports Engineering staff reviewing reports, drawings, plans and specifications.

• Review and analyze data. Prepare spreadsheets and other analytical tools to support process optimization, projects, regulatory compliance and other analytical needs within the Water and Waste Department.

• Perform field inspections and oversight on various projects under the direction of project engineer or project manager. Assist in resolution of engineering problems impacting compliance, inspection, and development. Interpret specifications, and provide information on pertinent City code and policy.

• Check computations and specified materials for accuracy and compliance with regulations. Monitor performance and check plans to ensure contractor compliance with City specifications.

• Prepare periodic project status reports. Provide performance and task analysis required to complete projects.

• Perform engineering studies under direction of manager, project engineer or project manager and make appropriate recommendations.

• Respond to citizen complaints and issues regarding engineering and operations problems.

• Request survey, mapping, and data collection.

• Research publications and industry information sources.

• Prepare various applications for state and federal grants.

Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Civil Engineering or related field.
Special Qualifications: Valid Colorado driver\'s license required. May require an entry level water, wastewater, distribution, or collection operator certificate depending on the need to be assigned to a specific operation. May also require specialized operations training for operations area not requiring certification.
