HIRING RANGE IS $25.21 - $29.00 / HOUR

This is semi-skilled technical work in the collection and analysis of water and waste water, including surface water and receiving streams. This position maintains laboratory equipment and performs data entry through Excel or Access. Work is reviewed through evaluation of benchsheets and by observation. Individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities
Up to 25% of the time will be used to collect distribution system samples and other surface or waste water samples, year round. Performs field measurements using a variety of instruments.
Conducts a variety of chemical and bacteriological examinations of drinking, surface, and/or waste water, according to currently approved methods.
Demonstrates a high level of customer service to residents, clients and City staff.
Maintains legible and defensible benchsheets (paper and/or electronic) and accurately inputs data into LIMS system.
Reports chemical and supply needs to supervisor.
Adheres to strict quality control measures and performs quality assurance testing to ensure data is accurate; reports any discrepancies to Laboratory Supervisor.
Observes safety at all times. Upholds the laboratory safety program.
Performs basic chemical and mathematical calculations.
Calibrates and maintains laboratory equipment.
Keeps laboratory in a clean and organized manner, including laboratory glassware, equipment, work spaces, and vehicles.
Practices effective communication with supervisors and staff; observes punctuality.
Participates in work-related associations, workgroups and/or committees as needed.
Other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
College coursework in chemistry, biology, or a related field.
Some knowledge of water and waste water chemical and bacteriological analyses.
Ability to perform required mathematical calculations.
Ability to utilize laboratory equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Basic computer skills.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must possess at the time of appointment, and maintain, a valid Colorado motor vehicle license and a good driving record.
Level I Laboratory Analyst certification (RMWQAA) preferred.
