Northglenn is only 15 minutes north of downtown Denver and all of the events and attractions of a major metropolitan city. Go east on Interstate 70 and Denver International Airport is only 30 minutes away. Turn to the west and the majestic Rocky Mountains tower over the landscape and are a mere half hour away by car.
The City of Northglenn, is looking for an energetic and outgoing individual to fill a Utility Plant Operator position at our Water Treatment Facility. This is a full-time position as a certified Water Treatment Facility Operator in the Utilities Division of the Public Works Department. The city’s Public Works Department is the ninth in the state and 182nd in the nation to receive accreditation from the American Public Works Association (APWA).
This voluntary process has taken over two years and required intense evaluation of 561 specific areas – everything from the department’s procedures to communication to culture. This has led to improved operating procedures, more efficiency and increased preparedness in case of an emergency.
Position Highlights:
Compensation - Starting salary range will commensurate with experience and current level of Water Treatment Facility Operator certification as follows:
Level \"A\" certification - $70,908-$75,068/year - Full Range ends at $85,153
Level \"B\" certification - $64,273-$68,443/year - Full Range ends at $77,412
Level \"C\" certification - $58,241-$62,401/year - Full Range ends at $68,189
Level \"D\" certification/Trainee - $52,757-$56,917/year - Full range ends at $61,990
Shifts: Rotating 12-15 hour shifts alternating days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules typically run 7 days on, 7 days off
Every other weekend off
24/7/365 facility

Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This is an active position requiring; standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The operation and maintenance of our 14 MGD water treatment plant.
Reading meters
Taking samples of raw and partially treated water
Operating pumps
Overseeing the safe and efficient operation of water filters and chemical feeders
Answering phones
Adjusting chemical dosages
Adjusting plant flow rates
Calibrating meters
Routine plant maintenance
Data entry and logs, and other related task and duties.
While daily tasks are primarily routine in nature, the candidate will be expected to demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking in addressing potential issues. The candidate will exhibit willingness to complete job tasks using established procedures and share ideas that could assist in optimizing the plant. Operators work directly under the supervision of the Chief Plant Operator.
The top candidate will demonstrate they have the ability to communicate proficiently, conduct themselves in an ethical manner, follow directions while taking initiative in certain situations and be able to learn new skills. Punctuality is a must.
Education and Experience
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma (or equivalent).
Must possess a valid Colorado driver\'s license with a good driving record.
Preferred: Two years of experience in water treatment facility operations working with SCADA. College level courses in chemistry, mathematics or related fields, the ability to perform math/chemistry calculations and laboratory testing procedures.
Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Access and SCADA will be used daily. Training will be provided in these systems as necessary.
Must have a Colorado Water Professional (CWP) Certification at the time of hire, or be able to obtain the certificate within six months of hire - training materials and exam fee will be provided by the city. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six months of employment, training and exam will be provided by the city.
