- Bowdoin College seeks a collaborative team member to join the Office of Institutional Research, Analytics, and Consulting, which collects, analyzes, and interprets data to inform College conversations and decision making.
The Data Analyst will extract, clean, and analyze data, providing summaries, in tabular forms and visualizations, to diverse internal and external stakeholders, including the College’s senior leadership. With a “can-do” attitude, the analyst works with partners across the College to ensure that data is accurate and promotes ways to improve data quality. The analyst prepares official numbers to report to federal agencies, college guidebooks, and peer exchanges, and will be responsible for peer comparison and benchmarking data. The Data Analyst will be trained to use the institutional data warehouse to summarize data for various departments across the College.
As part of a talented and versatile team energized by supporting the mission of a liberal arts college, the Data Analyst will have a commitment to collaboratively improving processes, the humility to embrace change, and a desire for continuous learning. The office’s team is led by the Senior Vice President for Institutional Research, Analytics, and Consulting, a member of the presidential cabinet.
Salary range: $55,000 - $75,000
Hybrid arrangements will be considered, with a minimum of 3 days in the office for the first 6 months. - Job Category

Job Responsibilities:
- Create data reports and visualizations for clients across the College to help them understand and utilize data for planning and strategic purposes.
- Generate reports by extracting, merging, and analyzing data from the data warehouse and source systems across campus to fulfill federal mandates, college guidebooks, and internal campus requests.
- Interpret and summarize key findings of data. Run statistical tests and identify trends and patterns in data.
- Serve as the institutional research expert on peer and publicly available higher education data. Complete internal strategic analysis and conduct benchmarking studies on peer institutions using both public and restricted data (e.g., IPEDS, COFHE).
- Provide accurate data and statistics for College publications, website, and external surveys.
- Conduct benchmarking studies on peer institutions using both public and restricted data (e.g., IPEDS, COFHE).
- Work to ensure that institutional data is consistent, accurate, and complete.
- Foster a culture of data-informed decision making across the College.
- Stay abreast of developments in higher education and the institutional research field, such as new analytical techniques and data visualization practices.

Required Education/Skills:- Bachelor’s degree

- Proven ability to work independently, be self-directed, and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities

- Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact with individuals of different backgrounds
- Advanced EXCEL skills (e.g., pivot tables, functions, such as if, sum if, and vlookup, charts)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Office 365, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service, responding to requests in a timely fashion with good judgement
- Committed to learning and applying new skills
- At least one year of experience merging data and developing reports to answer specific questions
- Experience collecting/extracting, organizing/merging, verifying, and cleaning data from a variety of sources for reporting and analytical projects
- Experience summarizing data using tables and charts, tailored for specific audiences
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities with deadlines
