William Paterson University invites applications for the full-time position of Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness. The Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership in fulfilling the office’s mission to support continuous improvement through actionable information to facilitate evidence-based strategic decision-making. The position reports to the AVP and works collaboratively with IE staff and the wider University community.

Job Details

Responsibilities include:

Data Management and Reporting

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee data extraction, reporting, and analysis for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Enhance data management practices to ensure data accuracy, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Advance IE’s data visualization efforts to provide actionable insights to the University community.

Operations and Project Coordination

  • Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the IE Office, including project prioritization.
  • Develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement in data practices and IE operations.
  • Lead and manage complex projects related to institutional research and effectiveness, ensuring quality and timely completion.
  • Coordinate the work of the data analyst team members.
  • Providing guidance in data governance practices.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field. Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Higher Education Administration, Business Analytics, or a related field is preferred.

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in institutional research/effectiveness or related area, including in a supervisory capacity.
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience writing SAS, SQL for data extraction and reporting is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data management and data quality improvement techniques.  Experience with data governance programs and procedures a plus.
  • Experience with ERP data systems and institutional research reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to higher education, such as IPEDS.
  • Hands-on experience with Generative AI is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to interact positively and productively with diverse stakeholders, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and helping team members expand their talents and potential.
  • Detail-oriented, with a keen ability to focus on both specific details and overarching goals of projects.
  • Familiarity with benchmarking and key performance indicators in higher education is preferred.
