Brief Description
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, the Institutional Research (IR) Analyst conducts analyses to support the University with information requests and research for decision support, strategic initiatives and external reporting.

The IR Analyst writes queries and collects, validates, organizes, and reports a variety of institutional data and findings in the form of data tables, data visualizations, presentations and reports. The Analyst is responsible for ensuring data quality, completing and submitting mandated/compliance reports/surveys, assisting with institution wide surveys and managing academic information systems (e.g. HelioCampus). The Analyst will also offer support, information, and guidance in assisting the Associate Director of Institutional Research & Effectiveness and Assistant Director for Assessment in advanced data analyses and outcome assessment.

Job Details

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • The IR Analyst writes queries and collects, validates, organizes, and reports a variety of institutional data and findings in the form of data tables, data visualizations, presentations and reports
  • Manage academic information systems (e.g. AEFIS) and conduct recurring survey projects and one-time surveys as needed. The IR Analyst usually serves as the primary-point of contact for the survey and is responsible for all aspects of the project. The IR Analyst works directly with the stakeholders to develop, review and modify the survey questionnaire, develop and manage the survey communications plan, and administer the survey. Upon completion of the data collection phase, the IR Analyst processes the survey data merging with other sources of data required for analysis
  • Identify, collect, analyze, and report relevant institutional/external data, including enrollment, admissions, retention, and student outcomes data
  • Create institutional reports, assist with updating institutional fact sheet, factbook, and the IRE Office’s website
  • Develop and implement analytics and data visualizations in form of tables, charts, or dynamic graphs and dashboards
  • Apply technical/programming skills to extract data from the IRE Office’s data warehouse and Stevens’ student information system Workday
  • Develop documentation and scripts to validate data accuracy and consistency in data collection and reporting efforts
  • Coordinate and report accurate data to state, federal and other external agencies and organizations, such as IPEDS, CDS, etc.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests from faculty, staff, and administrators within the University
  • Serve on committee, work group, or project team and contribute as an active member of the community
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a research/social science/computer science/analytics/data science related field
  • One or more years of professional experience working with data systems, analytics, and/or research in a higher education setting or in a role involving data analysis
  • Strong quantitative and computer skills, including appropriate experience with statistics packages (e.g., SPSS), relational databases and data retrieval, visualization software (such as POWER BI or TABLEAU) and graphics and Microsoft Office product; capable of translating raw data into information and knowledge through the use of data visualizations and reports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The position also requires a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to detail, solid proofreading skills, ability to prioritize workflow and multi-task, adherence to deadlines and to ethical and legal standards in institutional research
  • Detail-oriented, organized and resourceful with the ability to complete projects with rapidly changing priorities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with culturally diverse university populations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely.

 

 

Location: This position will be working at hybrid location schedule.
