ITAL, Brazil, is searching for a young metal packaging materials researcher
Brazil’s Institute of Food Technology (ITAL) has advertised a four-year fellowship for a young researcher into metals, metallography and, specifically, aluminium alloys, with a deadline for applications of 16 March 2020.

The area of study is the influence of aluminium microstructure on increased resistance to pitting corrosion in drawn & wall ironed (DWI) cans for beverages. The scholarship period is for at least 48 months, and is being organised as part of the Young Researcher Award Program created by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).

In its description of the research post, ITAL says: “The aim of the project is to establish competence and infrastructure [in the] study of the metallography, chemical composition and corrosion-resistance of aluminium alloys used in the production of DWI two-piece cans for beverages.”

Requirements for the post include: a doctorate (PhD) in fields relating to chemistry and/or engineering, at least two years’ experience in a research group outside Brazil, proven experience in and knowledge of technologies such as scanning electron microscopy, and fluency in English.

Applicants will need to submit a CV/résumé, a covering letter outlining motivation and a short research proposal.

The pre-selected candidate will be required to complete a research project by the end of April in order to confirm the appointment.
