VU, Australia, includes sustainable packaging in innovation hub
Australia’s Victoria University (VU) in Melbourne will host a new Sustainable Futures Innovation Hub on its Werribee Campus, funded by an AUD 4.9 million ($3.8m) award from the state, and focused on developments in packaging, waste, construction and water management.

Presented as a part of the recovery from coronavirus, and involving the community, government and industry as well as academia, the new hub is supported by the Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund.

One of the key aims of the initiative is to further the circular economy “through research focused on responsible consumption and production practices”, VU stated on its website.

The sustainable packaging component of this research will involve the “creation of new bio-packaging from agricultural waste materials and by-products” as well as “practical strategies to reduce supply-chain hazards that drive protective packaging demand”, it said.
