Ghent University launches master’s in Sustainable Food Packaging In September this year, Ghent University in Belgium is launching a one-year advanced master’s programme in Sustainable Food Packaging based at its Kortrijk campus, around 40km to the southwest. “We want to attract a broad audience, including recent graduates, professionals and international students, in order to train as many people as possible to become experts in sustainable food packaging systems,” says lifelong learning co-ordinator at the Kortrijk campus Ewout Ramon. Professionals might include those who are already working in the food or packaging sector. According to the university, anyone with a master’s degree is eligible, but sufficient knowledge of maths and chemistry is indispensable. Although the programme can be completed in one year, the modular design allows students to spread the workload over two or three years, if preferred. Classes will be online, face-to-face on campus or hybrid, and conducted in English. As the organisers explain, both the food and packaging sectors have a specific need for experts who know how to package food in a sustainable way. Addressing this need, the programme supports a shift towards reusable, recyclable, compostable or biodegradable packaging. Contact with industry and the challenges it faces features in the form of case studies, visits and guest lecturers. Dissertations will be based around solutions to real-world questions posed by organisations in this area. For students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA), registration can be completed up to 1 April 2022. The deadline for EEA students is 1 June. Application can be via the Ghent University website. More information: www.sfp.ugent.be Published: 01/25/22 |
