ITENE to develop new site for process scaleup The authorities in the Valencia region of Spain have allocated a site of close to 2,500m2 and a budget of €2.7 million ($3.0m) for the construction of a new building where ITENE can install projects and processes in the pre-industrial scaleup stage. IVACE (the Institute for Entrepreneurial Competitiveness for the Valencian Region) has approved the creation of the building, adjacent to the main ITENE site, which will have a floor area of just under 2,000m2. The plans envisage the creation of up to 45 jobs in the period 2024-’26. According to ITENE, the new pilot capacity and laboratories will be dedicated to: recycling technologies; functional printing; biotechnology; additive production; and nano-safety technologies. President of ITENE Pedro Ballester reminded IAPRI that the institute’s current main building was inaugurated 15 years ago. “It seemed unimaginable that it would become too small,” he said. “Thanks to the growth experienced by ITENE, we have expanded our equipment, and we have developed new technological areas that require these new laboratories and pilot plants. This new site will be added to a further enlargement of ITENE’s existing premises of some 1,100m2. This development will host demonstration equipment and showrooms. Investment in this case will total €4.5m ($5.01m), 90% of it contributed by IVACE and the rest by ITENE. Meanwhile, ITENE says that its income for 2021 grew by over 20% to reach €10.9m ($12.14m). The workforce now numbers 182 professionals. Published: 01/28/22 |
