We are writing to you regarding a project we are managing on behalf of a partnership between the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). This project, launched in 2021 by the partner organizations, aims to identify and test more sustainable alternatives to the polypropylene (PP) woven bag that is commonly used as packaging for staple food and other commodity distributed by humanitarian organizations. Between the partners, almost 7 000 tons of PP bags are used for food and non-food deliveries. In this context, as the Project Manager, we have reviewed a range of alternative solutions to PP woven bags package humanitarian food and non-food items through a multicriteria evaluation process. We are now looking to work with organizations, companies, and/or institutes to design and test prototypes for these alternative solutions. The project is divided into the following five ‘lots’:
