New CEO and research director for Nofima

Nofima, Norway, has this month appointed both a new research director and a new chief executive officer (CEO).

Bente Torstensen will take over as CEO in June this year, as Øyvind Fylling-Jensen retires from the role. She has worked as director of Nofima’s Aquaculture Division since 2017, has a PhD in Nutritional Biology from the University of Bergen and is also a graduate of Harvard Business School in Boston, USA.

“My goal is to further develop Nofima as one of the world’s most recognized research institutes for sustainable food systems,” Torstensen said in a statement.

Erik-Jan Lock will take up his position as research director in March, and is currently head of food and nutrition research at the National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES). He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Bergen.

Lock has worked at NIFES since 2007. He studied for his MSc and PhD in the Netherlands, at Wageningen University and Radboud University Nijmegen, respectively.
