New members join from Germany and Austria Recent additions to IAPRI’s long list of international members include two from Europe: Albstadt-Sigmaringen University (ASU) in Germany and Constantia Flexibles in Austria. Albstadt-Sigmaringen University (ASU)Based across two campuses in southern Germany, ASU has a busy Life Sciences faculty, where packaging overlaps with the Food Technology & Nutrition component of the education program, and where food and food packaging is a key area of applied research.Business innovation modeling and advanced materials science are elements handled, respectively, by the Business Science & Management and Engineering faculties. But the Life Sciences faculty also boasts the Sustainable Packaging Institute (SPI), where Markus Schmid has a lead role. Here, research themes include: novel biobased materials; design for recycling; pack optimization; process design; active & intelligent packaging; and the wider bio-economy. Constantia FlexiblesHeadquartered in Vienna, new corporate member Constantia Flexibles is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of flexible packaging, and has 36 production sites in 16 countries. Around two-thirds of its 8.600-strong workforce are based in Europe. The third largest flexible packaging producer globally, Constantia is structured around its Consumer and Pharma divisions.
