MSU partners with Trayak on software for sustainability
The Michigan State University (MSU) School of Packaging (SoP) has announced a partnership with Trayak Inc for the supply and use of its EcoImpact-COMPASS software, which is a well-recognized tool for building sustainability into packaging decision-making and producing lifecycle analyses (LCAs).

SoP director Matt Daum said the development was an exciting one. “We teach our students packaging sustainability from a data-driven, end-to-end perspective, and the EcoImpact-COMPASS software is an important tool that helps achieve that objective,” he explained in a statement.

The software, which was developed to assess products and packaging, is an enterprise-level ISO 27001 security-certified platform. It is designed to allow companies to manage their sustainability goals, perform LCAs, make design trade-offs, do portfolio-level benchmarking and create various stakeholder reports against those goals.

Importantly, in a research and education context, the cloud-based system allows SoP faculty and staff to review student work and provide coaching on the platform.

COMPASS LCA’s development was originally funded by the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). It is ISO 14040 certified for producing conformant LCAs.
