ISTA Foundation funds three research grants

The International Safe Transit Association (ISTA) Educational Foundation today announced it has awarded three $4,500 undergraduate research grants for proposals focused on minimizing product damage throughout distribution and optimizing resource usage through effective package design.

Through research grants, scholarships, and recognizing educational contributions, the ISTA Educational Foundation empowers student leaders who will improve the world through advancing transport packaging design.

The ISTA Educational Foundation has selected the following three undergraduate research proposals, two of which are from IAPRI member institutes:
  • Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT): Experimental Measurement and Observation of Horizontal Acceleration During Controlled Events of a Tractor-semitrailer from Multiple Speeds
  • University of Florida: Effects of Convective Heat Transfer and Palletization on the Thermal Performance of Insulated Shipping Containers
  • Clemson University: Characterizing the Effect of Atmospheric Pressure on Internal Pressure of Dunnage Airbags in Transportation
The grant funds can be used to support each university’s packaging school research curriculum, a capstone-type project or course, or independent research initiatives. The universities have been invited to present their research findings at the 2024 ISTA Forum, which will be held April 22-24, 2024 in San Diego, California.

“The ISTA Educational Foundation is proud to support the next generation of packaging leaders,” said ISTAEF Vice President & Secretary Brian O’Banion. “We look forward to having the awardees join us next April at the annual ISTA Forum to showcase their new research in our field.”
