Kentucky Academy of Science - Event Information

Event Name:Communicating Geoscience seminar sponsored by Kentucky Geological Survey
Event Type(s):Kentucky science event
Description:What does it take to effectively communicate geoscience information in our rapidly accelerating and sometimes wildly contentious digital information age?
Join us for a day of presentations and conversations on the topic of Communicating Geoscience at this year’s Kentucky Geological Survey annual seminar.
Our featured guest speakers will include:
Dr. Lauren Cagle from the UK Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies,
Dr. Aileen Buckley from ESRI, Dr. Ellen Hahn from the UK College of Nursing BREATHE program,
and Steve Evans from the Kentucky Water Resources Research Institute.
We’ll show excerpts from this year’s outstanding KGS Donald Haney lecture “Between a Rock and a Hard Place: Communicating Contested Geoscience to the Public” by geologist and BBC documentary host Dr. Iain Stewart.
KGS staff will also talk about the ways we’re communicating about Kentucky to Kentuckians…from ways to make geologic maps more useful to the dangers posed by geologic hazards like earthquakes, landslides, and indoor radon. And, we’ll have posters to update you about ongoing KGS projects.
Please register by May 11, so we will know how many lunches and pastries to order and tables to set up.
Professional development certificates will be available.
