Session 1: Nuts and Bolts

WHY do we do this? Or rather, why do WE have to do this? Pennsylvania’s early childhood advocates have had some tremendous wins and some not-so-hot years, but the trajectory is up. We’ll cover the milestones in the PA budget process and timeline; working within a larger strategy and approaching your “target.” Learn to look up available information, identify, research, and approach your legislators. We review how to make your initial approach. At the end of the session, you’ll get a homework assignment that could take up to a half hour.

Session 2:  Scheduled a Meeting. Now What?

You made an appointment and thought about your own story. We’ll show you how to shape your story into effective communication that will resonate with your target. We’ll review messaging recommendations and some do’s & don’ts. Then we’ll dig into the ELPA “ask” for early care and education, and adapt the campaign’s talking points for the FY 2023-2024 state budget into a compelling narrative. You’ll be an active participant on your team and you’ll be able to brief others and make your meeting flow towards a pledge of support.
 
Bonus! Optional third session on Thursday April 27^th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
This optional call is designed to help you to reflect and process your advocacy experiences so far. Get suggestions on how to move to the next step with your advocacy. Bring your success, questions and/or frustrations to an informal meeting with your peers.
