Leading with Diversity involves harnessing the varied perspectives, experiences, and skills of a diverse team to drive innovation and success within an organization. It means actively fostering an inclusive environment where every individual feels valued and empowered to contribute their unique strengths. Leaders who prioritize diversity not only enhance team cohesion and creativity but also better reflect and address the needs of a global market. By embracing a spectrum of voices and viewpoints, organizations can build more resilient and adaptable teams, paving the way for sustainable growth and a competitive edge in an increasingly interconnected world.
This session will examine the value added benefits that DEI brings to an organization through the creation and continual support of a welcoming and inclusive working environment. Participants will be presented with perspectives and thought provoking concepts that will encourage personal and professional growth and a positive shift in the mindset of how to get things done. Overall the goal of the session will be to provide participants with ideas and opportunities to support positive change and make things better!
Speaker: Albert Jones
Albert Jones is currently the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion officer for Commonwealth University which consists of Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield campus location. A native of West Chester, PA, Albert is a 1999 graduate of Lock Haven University. He has an undergraduate degree in business management and a Master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. Albert started his career with Lock Haven University in 2000 as the Director of Human and Cultural Diversity. In 2003, he was appointed as the youngest diversity office in PASSHE at the age of 26 as the Assistant to the President for Social Equity and then in 2008 became Associate Director for Human Resources. In 2013 Albert began working for First Quality Products in McElhattan, PA as the Director of Human Resources leading the personnel management strategies for 7 years. In September 2020, Albert was selected to lead the Human Resources department for West Pharmaceutical Services in Jersey Shore, PA. before returning to higher education in July 2021 to the position he has today.
Throughout the years Albert has maintained a home based in central PA and has stayed connected within the local region through his participation in local and regional community events and activities. Albert is a constant advocate for the promotion of diversity within the living, learning and working environment at all three campuses. He works with multiple academic and administrative departments to help them appreciate the value-added benefit that DEI has when it is properly incorporated into the fabric of the campus communities he serves. When Albert is outside of work he spends time with his family and friends.
