This presentation will allow participants the opportunity to explore the integration of relational cultural theory into multicultural supervision practices. Participants will learn the core principles of relational cultural theory and their relevance to culturally competent supervision. Participants will engage in experiential activities throughout the presentation to broaden their culturally competent supervision practices. Additionally, topics such as supervisor implicit bias and diverse supervisor contexts will be addressed.
Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will explain the core principles of relational cultural theory and their application in multicultural supervision contexts. Participants will work in groups to obtain different perspectives and have a greater understanding of these concepts.
2. Participants will analyze the effectiveness of relational strategies in addressing cultural gaps. Small group activities will help participants enhance their learning.
3. Participants will demonstrate relational strategies for building culturally responsive supervisory alliances through role-playing exercises.
4. Participants will engage in introspective experiential activities to examine their implicit biases and reflect on how these biases may influence their supervisory relationships and decision-making.
Culturally Responsive Counseling: Engagement in Substance Abuse Treatment- 12:30pm-2:30pm 2.0 General CE presented by Jinan Barghouti
Substance abuse counseling requires counselors to consider cultural factors that will help in the enhancement of providing competent and cultural sound counseling services that support recovery. This presentation allows for a deep dive into the importance of cultural awareness, sensitivity, and inclusive practices in substance abuse counseling, focusing on practical tools to engage diverse clients effectively. This topic is for new and experienced professionals in the field of counseling.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand the role of cultural competence and humility in counseling. In small groups, participants will also further explore the role of cultural competence and cultural humility in counseling providing different perspectives and viewpoints to be explored to enhance learning and demonstrated an understanding of these concepts.
2. Identify common barriers to engagement faced by diverse client populations. Participants will identify common barriers in small group activities to ensure understanding of these concepts.
3. Learn practical, adaptable techniques for enhancing rapport and engagement with clients from various backgrounds Participants will be broken into small groups and be able to role play based on a case study to gain practical experience at applying techniques.
