Event Description
A recently discovered asteroid will make a close
passage by Earth on December 22, 2032. Will it hit
Earth? We don't know for sure, but the odds for our
survival are much better than in Russian Roulette! This
chunk of Solar System debris, estimated to be 100-300
feet across, is classified as a Near Earth Asteroid
(NEA). Sixty five million years ago, the Earth got whacked
by a much bigger NEA, leading to the demise of most
dinosaurs, and, perhaps, to the rise of mammals like
us! Should we lose sleep over the threat of
NEAs? Should we shelve our Christmas plans for
2032? Come to this talk to find out!
