Starting Strong: Parent Rights in Early Childhood and Beyond
0.2 CEUs
Erin Hinkel & Penny Moody, Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD)
What if we told you stress isn't something to avoid but to embrace? While we know that self-care is essential for wellness, we must go beyond bubble baths and drinking water to develop skills in real-time self-management to sustain this work. This presentation is not your ordinary self-care talk. In this session we will explore how stress effects ourselves and those we serve; help develop a new understanding of stress and how we can use it to deepen our work with others and apply in-the-moment strategies to use when engaging in difficult situations to mitigate the effects of stress, secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue and burnout.
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand the key differences between Part C (Early Intervention) and Part B 619 (Preschool Special Education) under IDEA
  2. Identify parent rights that apply in preschool programs and how these rights continue or change when transitioning to kindergarten
  3. Recognize the importance of early collaboration with the school team to support a smooth transition into kindergarten
  4. Learn how to participate effectively in preschool and kindergarten IEP meetings, including understanding evaluation, eligibility, and services
  5. Gain strategies for organizing and sharing important records to advocate for their child during transitions
  6. Connect with available community and school resources to ensure ongoing support as their child enters school-age programs

The Persistence Paradigm: Creating the conditions for People to thrive
0.2 CEUs/Submitted for 2 OA hours
Matt Deevers
Rooted in the science of positive psychology and self-determination theory, the Persistence Paradigm encourages learners to shift mindsets and practice three general approaches that cultivate motivation and persistence in others: make it safe, grow the collective, and keep the clay wet. This essentially encourages leaders, managers
and teachers to focus on the creating conditions where people thrive, rather than relying on less effective approaches rooted in behaviorism and competition.
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the differences between an industrial mindset/achievement paradigm to an agricultural mindset/persistence paradigm
  2. Define the three universal psychological needs all humans share (ability, belonging, control)
  3. Identify and generate strategies and behaviors that cultivate a sense of ability, belonging and control in others

Promoting Healthy Infant Brain Development
0.2 CEUs/APPROVED for 2 OA hours
Nationwide Children's Hospital
Based on Dr. Becky Bailey's 'Four Components Infants Need for Healthy Brain Development', participants will learn four specific ways to support healthy infant brain growth.  This training consists of video, instruction and group discussion focusing on the importance of the caregiver's role and genuine presence when working with infants.  Information is shared pertaining to attunement, reading infant cues, process of serve and return between adults and infants, creating a safe environment and providing stimulation to infants.  Participants will have opportunities to discuss how they will apply ways of supporting infant brain development in their own settings.
This training is beneficial for all infant caregivers in any setting.

Applying the Platinum Rule to Improve Relationships

        Matt Deevers

Dr. Matt Deevers is an educator, researcher and leadership coach. He has worn several hats throughout his career, including his current position as the founder and CEO of Dimensions Consulting. Matt specializes in helping people communicate more effectively and helping leaders create the conditions where others can thrive.

We all know the golden rule. The Platinum Rule is all about treating others the way they want to be treated. Learn how to build healthier relationships with others by focusing on what they need, rather than what comes most naturally to us. Learn the concept of dress for the weather - So many leaders approach every situation the same way. It’s like wearing the same clothes all year round, even though we know we have to dress differently for different types of weather.
