USSP, Humana and Center Court are pleased to host a six-week Drills and Skills series! Whether you're gearing up for a tournament, preparing for a local round robin, or just looking to sharpen your fundamentals, this series is built to elevate your game. We'll be breaking down essential techniques—from mastering the kitchen line and soft dinks to perfecting your positioning—with a focus on smart, strategic play that keeps you competitive and confident on the court. Grab your paddle, and let's get to work!

Session Format
10 minutes: Skill demonstration
35 minutes: Drill practice
15 minutes: Games using the skill.

Week 1: Dinking Consistency
Learn proper kitchen control and soft hands.
Players practice crosscourt dink rallies aiming for 10–15 consecutive shots while focusing on paddle position, soft grip, and controlled contact.
Game: Skinny dink games played crosscourt to encourage patience and consistency.

Week 2: Third Shot Drop
Focus on the shot that allows players to move from the baseline to the kitchen.
Players practice dropping the ball into the kitchen and advancing forward. Emphasis is placed on lift, arc, and controlled movement toward the net.
Game: Points begin with serve, return, and required third shot drop.

Week 3: Resets and Defense
Learn how to neutralize aggressive shots.
Players practice soft reset shots from the transition zone while opponents apply controlled pressure from the kitchen line.
Game: One team begins in transition and must reset the ball before attacking.

Week 4: Speedups and Counters
Understand when to attack and how to defend against fast exchanges.
Players start with dink rallies and practice recognizing attackable balls. Drills focus on compact speedups and quick counter volleys.
Game: Kitchen rallies where players must dink several times before attacking.

Week 5: Transition Zone Play
Improve movement and control between the baseline and kitchen.
Players work on advancing forward through drops and resets while maintaining balance and proper positioning.
Game: Baseline team attempts to work forward and reach the kitchen before winning the rally.

Week 6: Strategy and Point Construction
Apply skills learned throughout the program.
Players practice building points with serve, return, third shot drop, and controlled dink exchanges before attacking.
Game: Structured doubles play emphasizing patience, positioning, and shot selection.
