Position Description: 
General Summary of Overall Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties in operation and maintenances of Water Treatment Plant. Monitors operation of the pumps, settling basins, plant components, and associated equipment. Performs (and interprets results of) required chemical tests. Cleans and maintains facilities and operating areas and grounds. Collects samples, conducts tests, reports and records results. Performs maintenance on water lines, pumps and other equipment. Routinely diagnoses and repairs usual and novel operating problems. Provides work leadership and guidance on operational issues and problems for other Operation Technicians. Follows established operating policies and procedures. Operates computer to monitor operations and inputs data for reports. Observes safety precautions, rules, and regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities: 
Essential Job Functions
• Assists in the operation of a water treatment facility
• Monitors gauges, computer, meters, pumps, bleach feed, chemical feeders, turbidimeters, etc.
• Collects samples and conducts bacteriological and chemical tests required by the state and federal regulations.
• Adds proper chemical dosages to treat, disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
• Calculate percentage of water used and chemical dosage used; takes and tests samples; reads meters and gauges.
• Responsible for the completion of a variety of reports as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
• Changes charts and changes or replaces belts, tubing, etc.
• Uses mechanical tools, calculator, laboratory and testing equipment, and specialized pumps, greasing, etc.
• May perform repairs on small electrical equipment and meters.
• Performs maintenance of water lines, chemical lines, pumps, and other equipment including motors, adding oil, changing filters, belts, tubing, etc.
• May perform general maintenance of buildings and grounds and related activities such as collecting garbage, spraying and weed-eating, picking up debris, painting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning, etc.
• Maintains inventory of supplies.
• Maintains records and logs of required documentation.
• Answers the telephone and may interface with the public.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
• Routinely diagnosis, repairs and solves unusual operating problems on equipment and facilities.
• Provides work leadership and guidance on operational issues and problems for other Operation Technicians.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills Required: 
Qualifications
• Requires High School graduation or GED, plus 6 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Requires Class IV Water Certification.
• Requires demonstrated mechanical and electrical skills.
• Requires effective mathematical and numerical skills.
• Must be able to use laboratory test equipment and interpret the results of tests.
• Requires knowledge of operational hazards and safety precautions.
• Requires detailed knowledge of state and federal regulations.
• Requires effective computer skills for operating plant.
• Requires use of computerized systems.
