Position Title: 
W/WW Plant Mechanic - Kingsport, TN

Position Description: 
Responsible for installation, repair, and general/preventative maintenance of the water filtration plant, the wastewater treatment plant and outlying pumping and lift stations.  

Duties/Responsibilities: 
• Installs, operates, maintains, trouble shoots and repairs mechanical equipment at the wastewater/water treatment plant, water pumping stations and sewer lift stations;
• Performs preventive maintenance on utility booster stations, tanks, pressure valves and related equipment:
• Replaces and repairs pumps, motors, motor starters and controls, mechanical seals, valves, float switches and plumbing fixtures; 
• Inspects pumping stations as required for proper operation and repair as needed
• Participates in new pump station construction by installing conduit, wire, pumps and motor control panels; 
• Must be available to take emergency call in, work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills Required: 
• Knowledge of occupational hazards relative to gases, working in confined spaces, electrical shock lifting heavy motors or pumps - and the corresponding appropriate safety precautions including lockout/ tag out procedures; 
• Knowledge of the techniques and procedures for checking and performing pump, motor and lift station repairs; 
• Skill in repairing pumps, motors, controls, valves and plumbing fixtures; 
• Skill in communicating orally and in writing; 
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff. Skills in the use of computers and software.


Education and Experience: 
High school graduate or high school equivalent; plus, experience equivalent to four years full time in mechanical and electrical maintenance of which two years is in pump and electric motor repair.
