Mid Level Environmental Engineer

Position Description: 
Brown and Caldwell, a national environmental engineering firm, has a new opportunity for a junior to mid-level Environmental Engineer to join us in our Memphis, TN location. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a growth-oriented professional consulting office. The successful candidate will work with and be mentored by strong, nationally recognized, senior technical staff, while participating in wastewater and water facility related projects.

Duties/Responsibilities: 
- Provide support on a variety of environmental engineering projects with an emphasis on water, wastewater, and stormwater and conveyance/distribution systems
- Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspection and testing
- Conduct engineering evaluations, execute design calculations, and prepare reports, plans, and specifications under the guidance of senior engineering staff
- Work on engineering designs preparing reports, construction plans, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects
- Assist with project management related tasks for various engineering design projects
- Perform data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation
- Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to wastewater and water treatment systems
- Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawing, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents and deliverables
- Develop understanding of regulatory and permitting requirements for a variety of jurisdictions
- Assist with development of permitting plans and permit applications
- Duties may also include field activities such as site investigations
- Successfully deliver assignments on time and on budget
- Participate in and adhere to BC’s QA/QC process

Education/Experience/Skills Required: 
B.S. degree in Engineering (Civil, Environmental, or related) required; M.S. degree preferred
EIT and/or PE preferred
Minimum 3 years professional experience preferred
Candidate must have strong verbal/written communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work well both independently and in team environment
Valid driver's license and good driving record required
Experience and/or coursework in water/wastewater treatment and conveyance preferred
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook) required
Experience using engineering calculation software (MathCAD, MATLAB) preferred
Experience using AutoCAD preferred
Experience using ArcGIS preferred
Experience using hydraulic modeling software preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential
Previous related internship or professional work experience a plus but not necessary
Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction operations (i.e. pouring concrete).
Ability to operate a BC Pickup Truck to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on site
Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
