Job Description:
This employee assists in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant.

Duties/ Responsibilities:
Independent judgment must be used when accomplishing tasks. The wastewater treatment plant operator shall possess the ability to understand the proper operation of the plant, accurately interpret and apply NPDES permit requirements, state and federal rules, and regulations, perform basic laboratory tests and apply the results of testing to the process, troubleshoot process problems, make control decisions, maintain accurate and orderly records, perform routine equipment maintenance (change oil, grease equipment, etc.), possess the ability to do grounds maintenance and possess the ability to work unsupervised.

Education/ Experience/ Skills Required:
"Operator in training" has to sit for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Water/Wastewater Operator Certification exam. The "operator in training" will be required to obtain a Grade Ill certification within two years, or a Grade IV certification within five years.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public and have strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Employee must possess the ability to understand and follow moderately complex written and oral instructions, read, and write legibly, and make accurate mathematical calculations.

Salary:
Dependent on license grade, experience and/or specific skills.
