The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
Reporting to the Chief of Strategic Initiatives, the Strategic Projects Office is tasked with shaping and implementing long-term priority initiatives for the Department. Projects under the Strategic Projects Office span a variety of subject matter areas, and may include assessing current agency policies and operations, researching best practices, testing promising new initiatives, and developing long-term strategies to accomplish the key goals of the Department.
The Strategic Projects Office consists of individuals with an array of backgrounds and expertise, from quantitative methods to operations to policy. The Office is tasked with the following functions:
- Conduct long-term projects, in-depth studies, and analyses as directed by the Chief of Strategic Initiatives.
- Perform comprehensive review and analysis of industry best practices to determine applicability to this Department.
- Prepare reports and briefings for the Chief of Strategic Initiatives for dissemination to the executive staff.
- Analyze Department policies and procedures and make recommendations to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Perform other functions as directed by the Chief of Strategic Initiatives.
The Office is seeking an Intelligence Research Specialist who will be tasked with the following:
- Coordinating the activities of subordinate personnel engaged in research and analysis.
- Assisting management in policy review, project design, program conceptualization, research and planning.
- Assigning, prioritizing, tracking and review the work of subordinates.
- Training and advising subordinates on complex procedures for research and analysis of the highest priority.
- Interpreting city, state, and federal laws, statutes, policies and procedures pertaining to policy, projects, program, and the analysis and interpretation of data.
- Initiating new strategies for conducting detailed research and analysis.

Qualification Requirements (Assignment Level I Only)
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in forensic financial analysis, business, economics, finance, history, international studies, logistics, management, political science, psychology, public administration, sociology, statistics or a closely related field, and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience working in criminal intelligence investigations, international research, intelligence database monitoring and analysis, computer aided mapping or geographic information systems technology or a closely related field; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college in one of the appropriate areas or closely related field as described in "1" above and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in "1" above.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
