8/1/2024 -8/1/2024 | Description: In this Zoom chat, members of the APSAC Amicus Committee will explain what they do and invite APSAC members to join in the work. The Amicus Committee is a multi-disciplinary group that advises the Board of Directors of APSAC on policy and legal issues impacting children. The group works to identify cases making their way through court systems around the country that could benefit from APSAC's expertise on the complexities of child abuse and neglect. The committee frequently offers services as consultants to legal advocates or as participants in legal briefs being filed up to and including to the Supreme Court of the United States. In addition, the group studies broader issues that impact children, such as racial equity, gun violence, transgender issues, and immigration. The committee works hard to advocate for children's rights, dignity, and agency in contexts that frequently neglect them. Presenters: Mary Kelly Persyn, PhD; Vincent J. Palusci, MD, MS |
