TAC Presentation

PFAS Regulatory Update

Thursday, October 20, 2022

Luncheon Description:

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly referred to as “PFAS”, is a group of contaminants of concern in water, wastewater, and solids that is gaining widespread attention, from the US EPA to popular media. This presentation covers the approach by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to addressing PFAS contamination. The discussion will include: why PFAS is a concern; federal actions for addressing PFAS contamination; where contamination has impacted drinking water; testing of wastewater effluent and biosolids for the presence PFAS; and state actions to reduce exposure and prevent further contamination. Various resources and funding available to support investigation and addressing of PFAS by drinking water and wastewater utilities will be addressed.

Speaker:

David Dani and Chelsea Cotton of CDPHE.

David is the Emerging Contaminants Coordinator for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. Previously, he oversaw training for Colorado’s Safe Drinking Water Program and provided leadership for the program’s Acute Team that works with drinking water providers during emergencies. He was lab manager at CU's drinking water optimization lab and project lead in Peru and Nepal with Engineers Without Borders.

Chelsea is an Emerging Contaminants Engineer at Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.  Chelsea has designed a variety of water treatment processes for industrial, municipal, and groundwater applications.  She previously worked for Silver Bullet Water Treatment, KEH and Associates, and H2O Engineering, Inc.

The deadline for registration is Tuesday, October 18, at 5 pm MDT.  If for some reason you are unable to register online, please contact Steve Polson (either by phone: 303-748-0931; or by email: steve.polson@jacobs.com) for assistance in registering, or to arrange for paying with check or cash if on-line registration is not working for some reason.
