CDPHE Regulatory Update: Direct Potable Reuse and PFAS – What’s the Latest?

Luncheon Description:
CDPHE staff will present the latest happenings and regulatory insights about Direct Potable Reuse, including preliminary planning for a couple of utilities. CDPHE will review the requirements of the rule and pitfalls and challenges that we anticipate as utilities attempt to use the rule. CDPHE will also present on the expected PFAS MCL, how it will impact water and wastewater systems, and discuss things utilities can be doing now to prepare for PFAS regulations.

Presenters:
Chelsea Cotton, P.E. is the Lead Drinking Water Engineer for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and on the drinking water acute team. She has over 10 years of experience in the water treatment industry including municipal and industrial process engineering for agricultural and industrial treatment projects, potable reuse, groundwater remediation, and surface water treatment. Chelsea earned a B.S. in Materials Engineering from California Polytechnic State University and is a registered professional engineer in Colorado.

Tyson Ingels is the Engineering Section Manager for CDPHE.  His responsibilities include oversight of the team that approves water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Also, in his prior role as Lead Drinking Water Engineer, Tyson led the technical justification for new policy and regulation, acceptance of alternative technologies (e.g. membranes, UV disinfection) within the State, as well as acting as technical expert both on DW design review issues and inspection issues.
