The RMWEA Annual WEFTEC Reception returns to New Orleans on Sunday, October 6, 2024. This year the reception is sponsored by COGENT.

The WEFTEC Reception is a popular event, giving the conference attendees a place to connect with colleagues from the RMWEA and to wish our four Operations Challenge Teams good luck in their competitions! This year, RMWEA will be represented by Metro Water Recovery's Elevated Ops and Double Duty, City of Westminster's Sewerside Squad and South Platte Renew's Commode Commandos.

This year’s venue, Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar and Restaurant, is just steps away from the Convention Center at 701 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans. The fun will begin at 3pm with a buffet of Hors d'oeuvres and a bar of house well drinks, beers, and sodas.

For those who have attended in the past, you know this is a fun atmosphere with plenty of food and drink!

We are excited to share with you all this invitation for RMWEA’s committee chair orientation. This is your chance to learn more about the organization and what your role will be. The main topics will likely include:
  • A brief overview of what RMWEA is
  • What committee chairs can expect
  • What trustees can expect
  • The role of board liaisons
  • An overview of the budgeting process with deadlines
  • Explanation, tips and tricks for getting your check requests submitted properly
  • Questions and answers throughout

If you are a Chair, please do your best to attend this important meeting in person. We understand that your time is valuable, but there really isn’t a better meeting available to learn this information. Plus we would love to see you.

If you cannot attend in person, we are planning to have a Teams option as well (please see the information below my email signature).

And if that is not incentive enough…We will be providing dinner!

Make sure when you accept this meeting that you choose the option to send a response. Then let Clay Rahn know if you will be in person or on Teams. This way we can get an understanding of how many will be attending and where.

Luncheon Description:
As with many regions in the U.S., the City of El Paso located within west Texas’s Chihuahuan Desert frequently deals with drought conditions that, in recent years, have diminished local surface water resources to critical levels. To help reliably meet their communities’ water needs long into the future, El Paso Water is now embarking on an endeavor that provides a safe, drought-proof resource using reclaimed water.  El Paso Water’s Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) will be the first large-scale, direct-to-distribution potable reuse project in the U.S. Against population growth and an unstable surface water supply, this pioneering facility will provide up to 10 million gallons per day of purified drinking water by treating effluent from the Roberto R. Bustamante Wastewater Treatment Plant and blending it with brackish groundwater. The AWPF is over ten years in the making and construction will finally begin in early 2025. This presentation will provide an overview of the project and discuss items being incorporated into the project that will keep it at the forefront of innovation for years to come.
