The Biosolids Committee and Town of Nederland Utilities Manager Andrew Bliss are teaming up to offer a facility tour on March 13. Join us to learn about how this small facility achieves impressive results in effluent quality and biosolids management. After the tour, join the group for lunch at a Nederland restuarant (location TBD).

More about the facility: The WWTP features a Fluidyne Sequenching Batch Reactor, built in 2013 to replace lagoons, rated for .25 MGD and 488 lbs per day BOD. Solids originally handled with lagoon. Sand filters and ferric chloride tertiary treatment funded by City of Boulder for phosphorous removal because Barker is a significant source of drinking water for the city. Boulder and Nederland have ongoing partnership to cover phosphorus removal operation costs, which includes a portion of solids handling costs.  Solids lagoon decommissioned and aerobic digester and PWTech dewatering screwpress installed in 2019. Hauling costs and I think odor from solids lagoon were the primary driver for the digester and dewatering system. Partially grant funded and voter approved. Town commissioned study to produce class A biosolids which estimated construction cost to be about $1 million. Town is currently piloting self hauling biosolids to A1 Organics to reduce hauling costs while producing a compost product similar to class A biosolids.

Rapid advancements and proliferation of technologies, both hardware and software including AI, paired with workforce trends are creating opportunities for the water industry to consider multiple ways to leverage these technologies to improve decision making and gain organizational benefits. This presentation will provide an overview of the trends, opportunities, and ways to effectively implement digital and AI within water. In addition, the presentation will engage with the attendees to learn more about their awareness and application challenges of implementing and advancing digital/AI within their teams.

A registration fee of $15 is being imposed for all attendees. This is reduced from our typical registration amounts to reflect the online nature of the event. Registration and payment for TAC luncheons will be handled at: TAC Registration. Registration may be made for a single attendee or for multiple attendees in a group. It is requested that each individual in a group either register individually or are included in the count for a group registration, and that multiple parties are not partaking in the presentation without registering. If for some reason you are unable to register online, please contact Steve Polson (303-748-0931), or at steve.polson@jacobs.com, to arrange for paying with check or cash.

The registration deadline for this event is Wednesday, March 19, at COB. We will send out the link for the luncheon to the email addresses per the registration site by the end of the day on Wednesday. If you are a registered group member, please pass along the link to the members of your group. Please note the Teams program does not need to be installed on your computer to participate. When you click the link provided in the email, an option to participate through your browser is offered. There will also be a call-in number, but it is hoped that nobody is forced to do that, as you will only receive the audio. If you registered but do not receive the email on Wednesday, please call Steve Polson (303-748-0931) on Thursday morning to determine how to get you the link.

This month’s luncheon will be held virtually. Sorry, you must bring your own lunch. 😊 Instructions on how to register are in the next paragraph. The presentation will begin at 12 noon on the above date (Mountain time). The presentation will be broadcast using Microsoft Teams. Folks who have registered for the luncheon will receive an email the day before with a link to the meeting. Please be sure your microphone is muted and the camera turned off when you join the meeting. The first is obvious, and the latter is to reduce the bandwidth required. At the end of the presentation, we will hold a Q&A session. For Q&A, please post a message in the Chat window that you have a question, and Steve will call on folks in order. You don’t have to state your question in the Chat area, but you can if you want. Otherwise, just turn on your microphone when Steve calls on you.

The program will start at noon sharp. Please be sure to connect before noon to avoid missing anything.
