Transportation Training Day

On-Demand Virtual Content, Available August 10 through September 21, 2020
 
Participants will engage in virtual content that will be available on-demand.  

Participants who complete the training will receive a certificate designating that they complete the required 4 hours of Annual Inservice.

THIS EVENT IS OPEN ONLY TO STAFF FROM AGENCIES WHO ARE SUBSCRIBED TO OHSAI'S 2020 VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES. Please ensure that your agency has subscribed. 
PROGRAM SUBSCRIPTION STATUS WILL BE VERIFIED PRIOR TO OPENING ONLINE ON-DEMAND EVENT.
VERIFIED PARTICIPANTS WILL RECEIVE LOG-IN INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO AUGUST 10TH.  

 
The event is designed to meet the four hour ODE Annual Inservice Training requirement for bus drivers and bus aides as described in Ohio’s Pupil Transportation Operation and Safety Rules (3301-83-10(B)).
 
 Session Objectives:
Participants will identify rules and practices that ensure safety in transportation services.
Participants will identify trauma and its effects on children, families and staff.
Participants will explore trauma-informed strategies to support children, families and staff.
 
 
Transportation Safety                                                 1.25 hours
Doug Palmer, Transportation Consultant, Ohio School Boards Association
Safety starts with a good pre-trip inspection, followed by reviewing bus stop locations, and finally, managing the students like our own children, which provides the maximum protection for our students. Participants will explore these topics as well as the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse with an overview of the program and guidelines for driver registration.

Pupil Transportation Updates                                   1.25 hours
Manuel M. Brooks, Ohio Dept. of Education, Pupil Transportation Section
Mr. Brooks will cover Transportation Rule updates related to the Ohio Revised Code updates, T8 Physicals and Pre-Service classes and recertification. He will share the most up-to-date information on Social Distancing in transportation, blended schools and school bus sanitation.

Trauma Informed Transportation                             1.5 hours
Arianna Howard, PhD

This training explores trauma and its impact on children, families and fellow staff, particularly in the context of COVID-19. This training underscores the importance of safe, caring adults in the life of children and their families in helping them cope and thrive. Participants will also discover ways to support one another.
