Time to act PFASt! Treatment solutions to an emerging Contaminant of Concern IWEA/IWWSG Joint Event
2/16/202212:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Event Description
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of manmade chemical compounds are an example of an emerging contaminant that attracted substantial attention of consumers, water professionals, and regulators due to their abundance in soil and drinking water sources, and their potential health effects. Accordingly, local regulation is already in effect in many states, and the EPA is taking measures to control the manufacturing, use, and exposure to PFAS and PFAS waste. Recently the EPA announced nationwide monitoring effort to evaluate the extent of PFAS presence in Drinking Water and a nationwide monitoring effort to better understand the extent of PFAS in Drinking Water. During the last few years, the sense of urgency was translated into identifying a variety of PFAS treatment solutions including GAC, ion exchange, High Recovery RO, and a novel adsorptive media. Like any other case of drinking water treatment, selection of the most suitable treatment approach is dependent on multiple parameters, from the source water quality to treatment goals, scale, discharge options, footprint etc.
In this webinar we will discuss PFAS origin, types, regulation, and describe the pros and cons of the treatment approaches that are available to both the public and private sector today.
