Event Description
Join SUNYCUAD and your development, alumni and communications colleagues throughout the system for a one-day professional development workshop focused on diverse, equitable and inclusive practice for higher education professionals. Featuring a networking breakfast and lunch, as well as breakout sessions and a plenary presentation. 

Objectives:
  • Acquire an understanding of current topics regarding Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Activate best practices for engaging diverse communities
  • Develop metric and data plans to improve outreach
  • Enhance leadership skills in relation management
Schedule:
9 to 9:45 a.m.: Networking Breakfast
9:45 a.m. – Welcome from SUNYCUAD DEI Committee
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Concurrent Breakout Sessions
Nazely Kurkjian - Accessibility in Academia
Considerations for individuals with disabilities are grounded in effective practices for all people. The presenter will provide a brief overview of disability laws and key concepts for equitable access. Tips to provide inclusive interactions, accessible design principles, and delivery methods will be shared to ensure full participation in your college’s programs, services, and activities.
 
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Understand key concepts for disability in society at large and specifically the higher education context
  • Recognize ways to reduce or eliminate barriers to access and provide inclusive opportunities

Lexy Rivera - DEI Practice for Advancement Professionals
Through a combination lens of identity discovery and humanistic fundamentals, participants will be guided through the process of initiating every day DEI practice for themselves, their teams and their institutional community at large.

Join us for "Identity-Based Engagement: Research in Advancing Inclusion." We’ll explore the evolving field of identity-based philanthropy research and its impact on alumni engagement. We'll delve into the latest research findings and practical applications, shedding light on how social identity can transform alumni engagement and philanthropic efforts in higher education. This presentation equips professionals with the tools to foster inclusive engagement, reinvigorate fundraising strategies, and build enduring connections with a diverse spectrum of alumni.
